Delivering up freaking hilarity like never before, Fringecast returns for a 45 minute special on weddings. Hey, it’s the season, right?
Tim, Joe, and Sara Z are all here with host Jeremiah Lewis (that’s me!) to bring you a pile of laughs, like dirty socks, on such things as Tyler Perry’s name on every movie belonging to black America, Jake Gyllenhaal as the black hole of talent and charisma, and how willing Sara is to let her fiance Joe tongue kiss Kirsten Dunst for a full five minutes.
Yes, that’s right. She gave the okay for him to make out with a snaggle-toothed troll.
Well, as marriages go, it should be an interesting one, and we get down to the dirty and gory details of wedding planning, the dos and don’t's of speaking your mind if you’re a guy, and of course, there’s the ubiquitous movie trailer for a film called Delivery Free or Die Hard. It’s a soon to not be Christmas classic fun for the whole family.
So sit down, grab a burrito, give yourself a nice little footbath, and listen to the latest and greatest thing on the Internet.
The iTunes feed is the easiest way to keep in touch with Fringecast at the moment. However, you can also access the full episode directly in mp3 format. The Fringecast XML feed is available through a feed reader. All shows are archived by date, and can be accessed here.
Merry Christmas!

For future travel planning purposes, here’s a helpful hint from Jeremiah and his lovely girlfriend Emily, who recently tried to travel to Roanoke out of New York by way of LaGuardia airport, via United.
Em’s original flight out was to have been 7:30pm on Thursday, but due to weather (Emily reported sky was clear at the airport) her flight was delayed. Then it was cancelled. She managed to rebook on a later flight, and boarded her plane a little after eight that evening.
She remained on the plane for over an hour while the technical crew attempted to fix a “mechanical issue.” This ultimately failed, and the flight was canceled. No other flights out were available, and a connecting flight that might have taken her was also canceled because enough staff to fly could not be found.
After standing in line for over an hour, Emily managed to get transferred to a US Airways one-way non-stop flight into Roanoke Friday morning at 7:25. At 4:30am, after no sleep and being at LGA for over 10 hours, she saw that her 7:25 flight had been canceled due to mechanical problems. Multiple attempts to find a different flight that isn’t canceled or booked have failed, and Emily is now attempting to get a flight out of JFK. The first available flight out is at 12:25.
The lessons are thus: do not flight United or US Air, and do not fly in or out of LaGuardia Airport. Emily’s experience is not necessarily indicative of the status of most air travel. But it’s certainly enough to sour one to particular agents with whom one might have had to deal.

Okay, Jeremiah. Name the top ten places you could see yourself living in the next ten years. You can’t include Los Angeles, since that is where you currently live. These should be places that appeal to you on an emotional basis, or would have benefits for your career, or would be a comfortable compromise between the two.
10. Washington D.C. – Believe it or not, I rather like the DC/Beltway/Arlington area. I’m not a fan of Northern Virginia, which skirts pretty close to DC. Despite the humid summers and fatcat politics, I think cherry blossoms in Spring and Georgetown brownstones are quite appealing.
9. Boston – I love New England, I like the Red Sox, I tolerate liberals. What’s not appealing about this trifecta of high-gloss lifestyle mixed with homegrown, colonial appeal?
8. Denver – The Rockies, despite being great places to commit cannibalism, are also great for driving and skiing. Denver real estate seems to be worth checking into, and the city is picturesque, yet doesn’t carry the stench of hippie/New Age culture that Boulder has.
7. New York – I would love to live in New York, but only if I was super wealthy and had publishing connections. Since my window for living there is quickly running out due to my girlfriend Emily finishing school and wanting to move away forever, I don’t see this happening anytime soon.
6. San Juan – It’s a charming town marked each year by the passing of swallows of Capistrano. It’s got an old-school Spanish feel that translates well for an uppercrust yuppie type. I could see myself in that mode twenty years from now.
5. Savannah – Who can resist hanging moss, four hundred year old trees, southern accents that defy normal mockery, and Confederate ideals, without the slavery? This guy, that’s who.
4. Seattle – It rains here. A lot. I have about an 85% tolerance for extended rains, so it would be a bit of a stretch to live here year round, but the quality lifestyle, the under-the-surface conservative movement, and West Coast laid-back lifestyle is a pleasure not easily dismissed.
3. Madison – Wisconsin, that is. Living inside the city might be fun, though I would actually enjoy living in a smaller town outside Madison more. The university there makes for a fun college environment, and with family and a first-rate coffee company operating right in town, there isn’t too much I can say against this option.
2. Asheville, NC – A small town, quaint, energetic, and folksy, but not “My mother named me Moonstone because I have a healing aura of Mother Earth and the song of the tides” folksy. Decent music scene, believe it or not, and nestled in the hills of North Carolina. Rustic, far from the madding crowds, and sometimes, that seems the most appealing.
1. San Francisco – Believe it or not, I think this city’s got a lot of things going for it. I like the art and design culture, the big city vibe mixed with the small town wharf appeal, its proximity to the water, the street trolley thing and the giant hills (making for great movie chase scene settings), and Dirty Harry love are only the beginnings of this city’s appeal.
Well, there you have it. I know the list could be refined if I had the moxie, but I just finished reflections on death. I’m not sure a list like this requires too much introspection.

Just when you thought life couldn’t get any worse, the Fringe crew has returned with almost an hour of content-free Fringe entertainment designed to kill brain cells almost as fast as the alcohol we consumed to make the episode! Featuring Joe Blum, Tim Fescoe, and moi, your straight-laced host Jeremiah Lewis, this episode marks our one year and one month birth, which is cause for discussion of everything but the significance of the occasion, which is great, but not earth-shattering great.
We commence with a meandering discussion of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, mostly revolving around a drinking game and the not-well-known sequel to The Wizard of Oz, leading directly into the ever popular subject of hobos, this time with a new concept that is sure never to launch within six months, HoboStruggling.com. A previous discussion of NCAA basketball causes us to discuss bracketing for all of life’s major decisions, and then we just go nuts.
Leprechauns versus Clowns, who would win? We bring back vampires and pull in the munchkins for an all-fantasy bracket brawl that results in much heated debate, but not much in the way of a consensus. We talk to Tim Shabanowitz, our recurring phone guest, and then end with how Murphy’s Law ruined my life.
The iTunes feed is a great addition to your morning’s activities, but if you want you can download the episode directly in mp3 format.

In the wake of getting a new job, Jeremiah discovers that his new zipperless pants make going to the bathroom a difficult proposition. This leads to the natural conclusion that boxers makers have discriminated against lefties. Joe brings up celebrity sell-outs–big names discussed are Adam and Eve–and then he brings two green guests in for a special interview.
If you’re missing out on Bollywood renditions of current television hits, your search can now end. And we end with a discussion of this year’s Oscar picks and why none of them are going to win anything. If you thought we were weird before, this will confirm it.
The iTunes feed is highly recommended, though you can also download the episode directly in mp3 format. In this amazing Fringecast, we discuss non-violent, peaceful terrorism, guerilla weddings, why guys like long hair on chicks, a Coors Light beer commercial that seems unaware of its rather confusing beer accolades, Amish who pimp their buggies, and the boys review Jeremiah’s new book based on its cover alone.
It’s been a while since I even participated in the Storyblogging Carnival, much less hosted, but I do plan on having a story ready, so if one story is a carnival, then you’re about to have a great night out getting sick on funnel cake and riding the Ferris wheel. If you blog and you write stories, and you post those stories on your blog, and you like attention, then send me your entry (email jeremiah.lewis@gmail.com) by Saturday, August 26, or no later than Sunday at noon with the following information:
* title
* story URL
* author name (optional)
* blog name
* blog URL
* word count
* content rating (like G, PG, R, etc.)
* a short blurb describing the story
Seriously, summer’s almost over, so you have no excuse not to post even a little tiny, tiny story. Then again, I should talk, right?
I look forward to reading all the good stuff.
