S’marvelous. S’wonderful. S’Fringecast.
That is right, gentle and wrinkled people of warm and cold climes. Fringecast has returned. Amazingly, we’ve noticed nearly a 100% drop in listenership (is that a word?) since we stopped airing Fringecast nearly a year ago. Seriously, where’s the love? Did you abandon us?
Sadly, that drop corresponds to just about the exact moment I took a full time job of servitude in the breast implant industry.
Thankfully, I have returned to the unfettered realm of freelance, and so we bring first to the docket a meandering and slightly edited discussion of all things trivial and nonessential, including our group haircut experience, Tim’s Bank of America fiasco (wherein he writes them an angry letter and nothing comes of it) and a frank and earnest discussion of breast implants. We also offer an improv segment from Tim and Joe.
Apparently, improv is the same thing as Fringecast.

Indeed, it’s the week after the election, and so we discuss politics with Washington D.C. correspondent Greg Piper, who discusses non-voting, free speech and porn, and new methods for voting judges into seats (hint: it involves pennies in socks).
Presidential history is big on our minds, as our discussion of the coolness of Calvin Coolidge reaches truly epic depths, and then we compare the size and variation of the words “skoch” and “smidgen,” followed by wireless blood transfusions and breast implants.

If there’s such as a thing as blog blasphemy, Joe commits it within the first few moments of our second segment in which we discuss the legitimacies of the claim “more money than God.” But before that, we bring Hooker back for a post-firing/re-hiring discussion, and he insults his new boss. New boss, it’s spelled H-O-O-K-E-R, and no, it’s not an escort service. It’s your new employee, and he’s trouble.
Then it’s onto a discussion about a new bank for goods such as beer bottles, DVDs, and Joe’s hair, which then becomes an ontological query into the nature of the Tooth Fairy, including geographical scope of said Fairy’s domain. A trailer for The Resentfulness is sure to make you wet your pants in fear and awesomeness, and we end by letting Joe talk about his lifelong dream.

It’s not every day you get a chance to spar with the best and come out on top. But with this Fringecast, Joe and I do that, squaring off with such diverse topics as retro weather reporting and the ethics of finding money on the street or in the woods, with the eventual but inevitable question “What would Jesus do?” entering the fore with surprising results. The answer involves slurpees and hobos, in case you were wondering. I have an interview with Jenny Chowdhury and Cory Forsyth regarding their prescient Popularity Dialer, which we discussed on a previous podcast and which they bravely set out to create and support out of pocket. Finally, we discuss alternatives to the term “The Man”, eventually deciding on “The Awesome” as an acceptable substitute.

Sara Zechoski joins Joe Blum and I, finally as a Los Angeles resident, to discuss Joe’s jury duty summons, Sara’s least favourite numbers, and my sock collection. Mel Gibson doesn’t escape our critical eye, and we discuss the fashionability of anti-Semitism. Robot Tim joins us for a review of the movie Clueless, and then we call two-time Fringecast interviewee Tim Shabanowitz to discuss his recent move out to Denver, Colorado, speeding, and Kansas.
It’s not something you’ll want to miss, especially if you really can’t stand morning radio. So put down that TPS report. Hang up that phone. Cancel all your meetings. Fringecast 13 takes an unlucky number and refuses to acknowledge its existence. Instead, we interview a Sony Spiderman 3 intern who happens to be sleeping on our couch and dissect the lives of Hollywood celebrities Topher Grace and Bryce Dallas Howard. We also discuss the recent deportation of the wife of special guest Lee Cross in an ill-fated trip to Mexico, to help orphan children of all things. We then examine and remember lost and forgotten 80′s cartoons, and trace the true etymological meaning behind the phrase “making out”. Baseball references abound.

We’ve got Superman on the brain as we contemplate the arrival of the new Superman Returns by comparing DC Comics to Marvel, and then taking it a step further and creating a Superhero Ratings Council, which does exactly what it sounds like. Tim relates a disturbing story about him and a Bible story character, and Joe and I discuss the experience of babysitting and our observations of the use of a baby to attract the ladies. Then there is a frank and honest discussion of proper usage and technique for toilet paper. Listen if you dare.

Have you ever wondered about face transplants? Have you ever wondered if Jesus ever had a son but didn’t want to plunk down $13.00 to see The Da Vinci Code and find out the truth? Did you ever consider making an ice cream float with “real” beer? Do you live in Boston and require instantaneous weather updates? This Fringecast probably won’t give you any meaningful information on any of those counts, but at least we try, and dang it, that’s more than most people are doing these days.
