Best Motion Picture

Winner for Best Motion Picture.
- My pick: Million Dollar Baby
- Oscar pick: Million Dollar Baby
Dustin Hoffman is either plastered or had a stroke. What the heck is wrong with him, he apparently can’t speak English as well as Salma Hayek.
I’m amazed. Clint Eastwood scores again, and it’s a top choice. Marty’s gotta be pissed. Nice [...]

Best Director

Winner for Best Director.
- My pick: Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby
- Oscar pick: Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby
I called it and damn if I didn’t think the Academy would give it instead to Marty. Clint Eastwood is the best choice, and I’m pleased as punch about it.
I feel badly for Marty, but he [...]

Best Actor

Winner for Best Actor.
- My pick: Jamie Foxx in Ray
- Oscar pick: Jamie Foxx in Ray
This was one of the tough choices, but Jamie Foxx really deserves the win. Congratulations. If he hadn’t won, I may have turned the TV off.
Who knew the man from Booty Call would have the chops to really put in [...]

Best Original Screenplay

Winner for Best Original Screenplay.
- My pick: Charlie Kaufman for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Oscar pick: Charlie Kaufman for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I’m doing much better in these latter categories. I figured he would get it because it was pretty innovative, if not overly different from Kaufman’s earlier stuff. If his [...]

Best Foreign Language Film

Winner for Best Foreign Language Film. Didn’t watch any of ‘em, sorry. I’m uncultured. And I liv in an area where these films are unheard of.
Antonio, Salma, and Penelope are in seventh heaven. Spain in 2008!

Best Original Song

I must have missed something from earlier, so pardon my confusion. I did not pick a Best Original Song, so I’m going to take a small break.

Another Beyonce Song

I honestly don’t remember this song from The Polar Express — I just remember the Mick Jagger debacle.
Beyonce looks like a mermaid, but damn, she’s got a fantastic voice. Josh Grobin (sp?) has a decent voice too. Colour me impressed.
I like the sets for these songs, they’ve been pretty simple and for the most part, [...]

In Memorium

Not overly impressed with the video segments the Academy has put together this year. It’s not as if an amateur with After Effects (such as myself) couldn’t do the very same thing. Still, I suppose they’re trying to keep with the theme of Old Hollywood. Simple. Sadly, not overly elegant either.
Oh well.
Yo Yo Ma was [...]

Whoa! Marty Time!

Should Marty be given the tough job of reading off a teleprompter? His eyebrows indicate that we’ll have six more weeks of winter.
Film Preservation is a neat subject, one I wish I knew more about. A fantastic award to one of Hollywood’s (recently) unsung heroes.
Roger Mayer is holding the statue like a cane – I [...]

Best Original Score

Winner for Best Original Score.
- My pick: Finding Neverland (Jan A.P. Kaczmarek)
- Oscar pick: Finding Neverland (Jan A.P. Kaczmarek)
I get a cookie! This really was a great score. John Williams shouldn’t have been nominated, but I suppose tradition is tradition.
