Following the wake of an abortion ban in South Dakota, a woman has posted an abortion manual online for women, including various methodologies for performing the procedure at home or at any sterile clinical environment.

They were deceived — much like you have probably been deceived. An abortion, especially for an early pregnancy, is a relatively easy procedure to perform. And while I know, women of South Dakota, that you never asked for this, now is the time to learn how it is done. There is no reason you should be beholden to doctors — especially in a state where doctors have been refusing to perform them, forcing the state’s only abortion clinic to fly doctors in from elsewhere.

Boy, does this have lawsuit written all over it. What an interesting tact to take. We can’t get abortions legally in this state, so instead, I’ll tell you how to perform one, since it requires little, if any, medical training, and is safer than actual pregnancy (according to some vague, non-cited statistic from the 1960′s). Let’s dissect this a bit, shall we?
As I understand it, abortion advocates claim that if abortion is outlawed, women will turn to “back-alley” procedures which endanger their lives due to unsafe and unsanitary conditions, increasing the chances of toxic shock, vaginal infections, excessive bleeding, etc. Now, just so you know, the inflated numbers used by abortion advocates to prove this was the case pre-Roe have been debunked, which makes publication (even on the Internet) of the manual and the author’s reasons for doing so somewhat spurious.
But imagine, if you will, the author’s good intention of writing a self-help abortion manual because she cares deeply about the rights of women to know about and have easy access to procedures that directly affect their rights as women.

DISCLAIMER: I am posting this as information only. Whether anyone chooses to act upon this information is their own concern. I believe in the free exchange of information and ideas. I believe this information has been kept from women for too long, and there is no reason they should not know about a procedure being performed on their own body, and no reason women should be kept in the dark about how to perform it — especially if someone they know is having their health jeopardized by this law.

This is apparently intended to be a panacea for any wrongful death lawsuits that result from a teenage girl reading this and taking matters into her own hands. But I wonder, if a woman having surgery for a cancerous tumor would demand to know specific details about the procedure being performed on her. What makes abortion, as a medical procedure, different from any other that it doesn’t require a medical license to perform? Does having someone scrape placenta from your uterine walls somehow make them a skilled medical technician or surgeon? I simply have trouble imagining how women can think an abortion self-help guide is any better than visiting a back alley doctor with rusty instruments and an old Hoover vacuum.

The first step is to break the membrane holding the fetus inside. You can feel around with the forceps for it. To get an idea of what each part looks like — and to see the texture so that you understand better how it will feel — I recommend looking at books with photographs of first trimester fetuses (personal recommendation for its astonishing photographs: A Child is Born).

I think the author misses the irony of using a book about children being born to aid in performing an abortion. Or perhaps not.

Save the material until the end of the procedure on a piece of plastic, so that you can be sure the entire fetus has been removed. If doing this sounds too ethically challenging, remember that fetuses do not have the capacity to feel actual pain until the third trimester. You are not “hurting” it, and it has no awareness, nor the capacity for awareness, that you are extracting it.

This is, in fact, a total fabrication. Fetal tests indicate that at eight weeks, fetuses are capable of responses to external stimuli, including pain, sunlight, touch, even sound. Whatever manner professional abortionists perform their procedures, it would be a safe bet to assume that anything done in an illegal clinic or house would be equally, if not more painful to the fetus. The unprofessional status of the operation, and the manual’s blatant disregard for the facts, indicates that the abortionist is in no way qualified to perform such a procedure. If the abortionist is aware of the facts regarding fetal pain, it in no way ameliorates his or her responsibility toward both the woman and her unborn child. After all, according to the manual, HONESTY is vitally important to the health of the patient.

In a normal world, this would be considered an antidote to sanity. It’s a mindless, stereotypical flash cartoon response to the Bush administration who, if the cartoon is to be believed, not only wants control over your very body, but actually is violating Constitutional law by attempting to pass laws through the judiciary to achieve it.
The origins of Choice Chick (trademarked by Planned Parenthood–believe me, no one else would want to claim that ridiculous moniker) are about as ridiculous as the origins of Mosquito Man, a superhero created three summers ago by myself and four other friends. The only difference being, we weren’t deadly serious about our hero’s abilities or purpose in life.
Planned Parenthood, on the other hand, has decided to drop the other shoe, making this the second stupid campaign it’s conducted in three weeks.

Captain’s Quarters has a great report of John Kerry’s flip-floppery on abortion. He’s now apparently in the camp that believes life ‘begins at conception’. Which makes one wonder how he can so blatantly support abortion, including partial-birth abortion. Captain Ed says it’s a political expedient statement, one designed to pander to Catholics.

Unlike those who define life differently, and who therefore have a consistent philosophical argument to support abortion, Kerry’s actions do not equate with these professed beliefs. Either Kerry has trotted out a new lie in order to shore up his Catholic support, or he has opened the window into his heartless, calculating political soul. Not only that, but even those who support abortion must be scratching their heads, wondering if Candidate Kerry will toss them under a bus with as much alacrity as he has his principles.

You said it, chief. This is a dark day for Democrats, who are rallying around a guy who has no political or ideological terra firma to stand upon. You know what they say about building houses on shifting sands. That’s the Democrats’ support of John Kerry. One day it’s all going to sink.

This VERY interesting article points out that because of abortion, the Democrats lost the 2000 election. Essentially, the author argues that abortion has reduced the number of potential voters, and for the Democrats, the number of ‘Missing Voters’ is quite high. High enough to cost an election. It’s a bit more complex than that, with statistics and surveys being juggled with projected outcomes of the so-called ‘Missing Voters’ political ideologies. However, here’s the crux:

– Republicans have fewer abortions than their proportion of the population, Democrats have more than their proportion of the population. Democrats account for 30% more abortions than Republicans (49% vs. 35%).
- There are 19,748,000 Democrats who are not with us today. (49.37 percent of 40 million).
- There are 13,900,000 Republican who are not with us today. (34.75 percent of 40 million).
- By comparison, then, the Democrats have lost 5,848,000 more voters than the Republicans have.
Let’s look at the 2000 election to see what those 6,033,097 Missing Voters meant to its outcome. What would these Missing Voters have meant to the election in Florida?

Table 4: Florida 2000, with and without Missing Voters

Candidate

Vote

Missing Voters

Combined Vote

Bush

2,912,790

107,799

3,020,589

Gore

2,912,253

153,163

3,065,416

In the actual popular vote for president in the 2000 general election in Florida, George W. Bush was declared the winner by 537 votes. But if the 260,962 Missing Voters of Florida had been present to vote, Al Gore would have won by 45,366 votes. Missing Voters–through decisions made in the 1970s and early 1980s, encouraged and emboldened by the feminist movement at the height of its power–altered the outcome of the U.S. presidency a generation later, in a way proponents of legal abortion could not have imagined.
Examining these results through a partisan political lens, the Democrats have given the Republicans a decided advantage in electoral politics, one that grows with each election. Moreover, it is an advantage that they can never regain. Even if abortion were declared illegal today, and every single person complied with the decision, the advantage would continue to grow until the 2020 election, and would stay at that level throughout the voting lifetime of most Americans living today.

That is pretty interesting, if all those extrapolated numbers are true, and I imagine they’re probably pretty close. Regardless, clearly abortion has robbed generations to come of their very constitutional (not to mention God-given) right to life. But if voting records and election outcomes may be used to prove that case, then so be it. The liberals have reaped what they have sown in ways they can’t possibly imagine.

What’s most interesting is the caption under the picture is worded “Baby ‘walking’ in the womb” (emphasis mine), which indicates that someone at the BBC doesn’t consider them just a bunch of cellular tissues. That’s encouraging.
