The Sound of Hipster Whining

Featured in James Taranto’s Best of the Web, Greg Piper sent this link about an Oregon Coast Lodge that won’t allow people who smoke, have pets, own Hummers, or voted for Bush to stay with them. Ironically enough, their diversity and tolerance policies seems to be quite limited to people who supposedly support and practice tolerance and diversity, but in fact are more ideologically committed to a one-sided belief system they can’t see past their own borders.
Even worse is that they even have a tolerance and diversity policy in the first place. We’re talking about a small plot of land on the Oregon coast with a few log cabins and a central office. Who do they think they’re catering to, the few hundred thousand visitors that stop by each month? I doubt it. The Oregon coast isn’t exactly on the hotspot radar for people with two week’s vacation time and a bunch of screaming kids in the backseat watching A Goofy Movie. Let’s face it, this is pretentious preening.
Plus their web designer should be forced to listen to a tape of whales singing whilst reading nothing but the Communist Manifesto and eating stale crackers. That’ll show ‘im or ‘er to use Comic Sans font!

  1. This is precisely the same argument I use when I argue against PC crap. PCness is based on being sensitive to others. Well, others aren’t sensitive to my freedom of speech when words I want to use aren’t “acceptable.”

  2. Better tolerance through exclusion

Do you ever get sick of people who proclaim how tolerant they are by telling you what they hate? It’s even worse when it’s a business describing its social conscience

  3. Welcoming Diversity … Except

Come visit environmentally sensitive Yachats, Oregon, prolifically populated with Moonbats. See them in their natural habitat at “Moonbat Friendly” Ocean Haven!
