Greg Piper wonders if the Christian Right is a PC label, and then argues the better point, which is that the term “Christian Right” too often paints with too broad a stroke.
I’m not especially bothered by any of these terms when accurately applied – but usually when I hear any variation of “right,” it’s applied much too broadly, as in “this administration is in the pocket of the Christian Right” or worse, “The Christian Right is taking over America.” Not really, if you look deeper: very little action against abortion; the president supports civil unions for gays; mostly lip service on fighting gay marriage; and the likely erosion of the president’s policy to not fund more embryonic stem cell research. And in all likelihood, they won’t get the judicial nominees to the Supreme Court that they want. But it’s still amusing to see the Falwell types start griping about their terminology.
Indeed.
