This is one of the more bizarre studies I’ve seen in a while. What is your best position for squatting to pee? If there’s a human activity (and some of them could generate real class A weirdness), there’s probably a study ongoing to determine the best position, movement, and ergonomic feasibility of it.

I wonder if the same applies for squatting to take a dump. As a guy, squatting to do number one is obviously not something that I’ve ever needed to worry about, but squatting to do number two is something that I’ve had to do on occasion.
I’m sure there’s some connection there, although I’ve found that an elevated position is usually best. Thus, a nicely positioned log will provide a perch for you to squat over, allowing enough space between you and the ground that there’s little chance of accidental touching what comes out.
Good point! I never thought of using a log; I’ll have to try that next time.
Come to think of it, I wonder if the sitting on the toilet is the best position for relieving oneself. I mean, I kind of always just assumed that it would be, ’cause it’s the one that our society prefers, but now I wonder…
Don’t the Japanese just stand over a little hole in the stall and squat?
I’d always heard that their bathroom arrangements were different from ours…I’d never heard how, though. That’s interesting. Maybe sitting isn’t necessarily the best, if other societies do it differently.
I think you’re right, Greg. I believe the American Indians used to do that as well.
I wonder what they used for toilet paper…
