Political Rants

A Banana Republic

VodkaPundit accuses the Democrats of turning the United States into a banana republic. This stems from a Drudge report that makes the Democrats for inciting its constituency into claims of voter fraud, frabricating data that could bring the Republic to its knees. Best way to beat the Constitution? Take away the people’s trust in the electoral system, the system by which all of our leaders are chosen. Destroying faith in the electoral system could create a void, into which autonomous tyranny can easily enter. Thus VodkaPundit’s concern over Democratic tactics this election cycle.
Could the process be destroyed? Could we see the end of democratic voting in the United States in our lifetime? We’ve seen a lot of changes to our nation, its laws, the government, and the document that rests upon the bottom of it all. Where does diddling with the electoral process end? Where will it take this nation?
Good freakin’ questions, I think.
UPDATE: Captain’s Quarters has some dope on European publications attempting to screw with the US electoral process.
Via Tim Blair, who wants to wank together his own version of Clark County voter address scheme.
UPDATE: I should note that there are accusations of voting fraud coming from both sides. It’s just not looking pretty this year.

  1. I think Green is getting more than a little paranoid. After 2000 it was bound to happen that each side (some more than others) would start complaining about the process early, and they have some valid complaints. Remember that, even after a horribly divisive Court battle, Al Gore gave a gracious concession speech expressing his disagreement with the Court, but acceptance of their authority. I see no reason that John Kerry or George Bush wouldn’t do the same.
