This is an especially difficult post to write, because I’ve taken such a hardline stance against many of the practices and actions of the Church–that is, the Catholic Church. A series of posts several weeks back, and some more in-depth research has illuminated me and I’ve subsequently been forced to reevaluate what I thought I knew about the Church.
Though I still, in principle, disagree with some Church doctrine, I accused Her of several things which I later found to be untrue: that Communion was a re-sacrificing of Christ’s body (which would be unbiblical), and that Catholics don’t regard Scripture to be the authoritative Word of God. I also accused Church leaders of being Pharisees on the issue of requiring wheat-based bread in Communion, though I still hold contention with the Church on this issue, I think it was rash to throw that hypocritical label upon the Church which, as Justin Katz pointed out, has invested scholarship through the ages to support many of its practices, both theological and ceremonial.
Elena at My Domestic Church invested some time to help me to see where I had erred, and graciously forgave my pointed accusations. Youth is no excuse for indiscretion, and I hope to be more thoughtful in the future before airing a grievance. To all who read the posts in question, I hope you’ll receive my apology.

Very graciously done Jeremiah. Thank you!
Credit Where Credit’s Due
An impressive post from Jeremiah Lewis following up on the wheat Eucharist discussion. I have to confess to being almost entirely naive about the preconceptions and misconceptions that people have about Catholicism. Just as all Rhode Islanders are kin …
I would like to hear your thoughts on the topic of “Can a Muslim get into heaven”
Bravo! God bless.
Didn’t read your original post, but came to you via My Domestic Church.
Public apologies are never easy. You did great. I’ll drop by again.
Janet
Public apology aside for a moment, I’m glad you chose to rant about the matter in the first place. It forced me to consider the magnitude of Biblical specifics I had always taken for granted.
You also managed to bring in people from all sides to discuss it, lay facts out, and share their knowledge and views about God.
I think that’s valuable.
