Rest In Peace

RIP Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004)

Reader Jessica Dambruch alerted me to the sad news of Jerry Goldsmith’s passing. I’ve been a fan since Tora! Tora! Tora!, though his most memorably score for me is The Ghost and the Darkness, which is a fine blend of Irish and African musical tributes intermixed with traditional movie score. L.A. Confidential was a nicely crafted 50′s tribute, and of course, his scoring of the Star Trek movies are his most famous.
Hollywood and film music fans will miss him.

  2. I liked his opening theme for “The Shadow,” in addition to all the Star Trek work and others.
Speaking of music, does the Evanescence song “My Immortal” sound like one of Danny Elfman’s themes from “Edward Scissorhands”?

  3. I love the score for The Shadow. Excellent stuff.
I’m not familiar enough with that song to say.
