I’m not a fan of the Bush campaign recruiting boosters from churches and other religious organizations. And I certainly don’t think any church has the right to submit a church member directory without gaining permission from the members. All in all, this isn’t such a good thing, and further turns me off to Bush. It’s churchmongering and belies the purpose of the church, that is, missions and preaching the gospel.
On top of that, it may be illegal, due to tax exemption status laws.

Very true. The church’s mission, as outlined and stated in it’s foundations in Acts, was and is to proclaim the gospel and share in the fellowship of the breaking of bread with other believers. Although I don’t agree that the church should be made into a foundation for a political platform, I also think that it’s important for christians and the church to take a pro-active stand to support leaders that support the church, it’s values, and God himself. To have Kerry re-elected would be devestated and only add to the moral corruption that already exists in society, degrading more and more each day. The U.S. is turning, if not already, into a state of Sodom and Gommorah.
I’m not thrilled by the news either. It would be nice if the FEC would take a look at all the church-politician collusion from Democrats and black congregations too.
Christians should be more active in politics, but it’s not the church’s place to be partisan. When the church and/or the pulpit is used to tell me who to vote for, I get down right mad. It happens on both sides of the fence and is very shady. Although I’m not suprised, I must say it hadn’t really occurred to me that campaigns would so blatantly recruit for this kind of behaviour. I find it repulsive that they do so, and even more sickening that it works. Ugh.
