52 Movies in 30 Days

Devin Clark has done what I can only dream about. He invested in Blockbuster’s Freedom Pass, rented 52 movies in 30 days (which comes to 50 cents/DVD). What’s more, he watched them all, while maintaining a job and losing a social life. Wow. My favourite part:

Was it Worth It?
Well, I came out the other side of this experience with two valuable lessons.
One: there are a fuck-load of shitty ass movies in the world. This is especially apparent when considering that most of the films I watched were made in the last three years and on the whole they were god-awful.
Two: Watching too many of these shitty ass movies has serious and detrimental effects on the human mind. As in I have most definitely become stupider in the last 30 days, which if you know me is really something.

I believe Devin has made an important discovery in why the world is insane. I salute you for a service well-rendered.

UPDATE: Reader Chris Mayer has challenged me to beat Devlin’s 52 movies in 30 days record (well, I don’t know if it’s a record, but…anyway). I’m unable to resist a challenge. So, beginning in December I will attempt to watch more than 52 (more than 57 if you count the ones he saw in the theatre) movies in 30 days. At the end of the month I will post my results on the website.
Oh, it’s on!

    Seriously, consider yourself challenged.

  2. I. So. Hate. You.
You’re on. December. I make the rules though – they don’t have to be rentals – they can be theatre movies – but they can’t be movies I’ve watched before. And I get to watch them at your place if you’re there and have nothing else to do. Might as well make you suffer along with me.
    Crap, I’m so screwed.

  3. We could always modify it so you have to watch all anime…I’ve at least got 52 anime DVDs.
Should make for some good blogging at least.

  4. I tell you what. I’ll watch some anime. But the problem is that most anime comes in series form – I’m only doing movies. Feel free to pick out ones that might work. There’s no way you’re getting me to watch 52 anime movies though. How about YOU do that?

  5. Maybe you should watch all movies that you have never seen before but get them from one genre….like rent out the entire shelf of the drama section….or action. That will be better (or more mind numbing, take your pick). And since you are spending the money for these dvd’s feel free to invite me over to watch them as well.

  6. Sure, but you’re only going to be around for part of December, so I’ll make sure to watch all the crappy movies in the beginning. Taste the pain!
